Goghat students still await tablet payments amid transaction delays and uncertainty

Four students from Baghardbird High School in Goghat, West Bengal, are still waiting to receive the tablet money promised to them by the state government. While most students have already received their payments, the four students—Soma Chattopadhyay, Barsha Dhara, Trisha Bag, and Suman Mondal—have not been paid, despite submitting all the required documents and forms multiple times. These students are in the 11th and 12th grades of the school.

The acting headmaster of the school, Tapan Kumar Jana, confirmed that the payments have not been processed for these students. He explained that the delay is due to recurring issues with transaction failures. Despite repeated attempts to process the payments, the transactions have been unsuccessful. While the headmaster assured that the payments would eventually be made, he could not provide a definitive timeline for when the money would be disbursed.

The four students have made multiple visits to the school, seeking updates on their payments, but have not received any substantial information. They have expressed frustration with the situation and urged the school administration to look into the issue more thoroughly. In response, the headmaster has recommended that the matter be reported to higher authorities for further investigation.

This ongoing delay comes amid broader concerns about the tablet distribution program in West Bengal. In the past, there have been reports of irregularities in the distribution process in various districts, including Purulia, where several individuals were arrested in connection with allegations of corruption. While no such accusations have been made regarding the Goghat school, the delay in payments has raised questions about the smooth implementation of the initiative and its ability to meet the needs of all students.
